Historic Preservation Commission Logo
Saint Paul, Minnesota
Before embarking on a project to identify historic neighborhoods in Saint Paul, the Historic Preservation Commission wanted a logo. They’d never had one before and the signage project was a perfect opportunity to mark the import of the agency’s work. Finding the right image to represent them was straightforward enough; an early success project was also emblematic for the city. The old Federal Courthouse, an iconic Richardsonian Romanesque building from the beginning of the 20th century, had been in danger of being demolished. In the eleventh hour, the HPC with public support, saved the building. The building was chosen to be the symbol of the agency’s significant role in preserving the city’s heritage.
The new logo was designed to coordinate that of the City of Saint Paul so when shown together they would compliment each other and appear related.
Once the new logo was approved, it was used to promote the agency’s mission with a series of signs identifying the city’s most historic neighborhoods.
